Final Culminative Assignment PT2

Artist Statement - Jordan Bates In this course we did a lot of different types of projects, such as Image manipulation, stop motion, composition for photographs, Animation, Video, Careers in Media arts, and photography. Each project I did in this course taught me a new skill or lesson in Media arts and about life. Some of my favorite pieces I did in this course was Image manipulation, specifically the Amber 6 project where we were given a photo of a young girl and had to make a small grid of 6 photos of the girl. We had to make each of the 6 photos different from one another, for example, if I had one photo where the colors were inverted, I couldn’t do only inverted colors again, I had to also add another design to it such as a shadow or inverted version of the girl. I really enjoyed this project in particular because it opened up my creative side more and really made me think of different designs and concepts to do. Another assignment we did I really enjoyed was the stop motion ...

Final Culminative assignment PT 1

Image
today I created one of my final art pieces for this media arts course, I had to create a poster, essay, or video of what I stand for which is Equality, I choose to do a poster. The software and equipment I used were Gimp to create the poster, my laptop to edit the poster, and google to research and find photos of equality. The biggest challenge I had with this assignment was the creation of the poster, I had a lot of obstacles. For example, trying to put borders around my text boxes to make my poster look more organized or try to fill in my text boxes with color. I got through these challenges by asking my teacher for help and she showed me what to do with those problems. I think the most successful process of this project was the research and finding pictures of equality. I didn't have much trouble with this part of the assignment. I think the final assignment is successful as I think I provided a lot of information on equality and showed pictures that convey my point of equalit...

My Hobby Assignment

Image
Today I had to create a small video on my favorite hobby, I choose to do fishing. I love fishing and have been fishing since I was very young. the equipment I used for this assignment was my phone to record voice memos, open shot, and my computer to upload my photos and voice recordings. A challenge I had with this project was making sure my voice recording was matching up with my pictures, I solved this by cutting off the time for some of the voice recordings and pictures so they match up properly. the most successful process of this project was the voice recording part, I took a lot of recordings and made sure I picked the clearest ones. I don't think the final assignment was perfect because I could have used more pictures of myself. If I did this assignment again I would add more photos and information on my hobby. If I continued this project I would add more details.

Time lapse

Today I had to create a 20-30 second long video using a video technique called time-lapse. the programs I sued were the stop motion app and open shot. A challenge I had with this project was finding the right time to record, I may have restarted my video over dozens of times because the setting wasn't good or the time was not right to record. I also had to let my phone record on a stabilized tripod for around 2 hours. to most successful process of this project was the recording process because I didn't have any troubles with this part all I had to do was use my tripod to stabilize the camera and then hit record on the camera.  I believe the final assignment is successful because my time-lapse video caught a lot of nice formations in the clouds. if I did the assignment again I would pick a different setting to record. If I continued this assignment I would make the video longer than 4 or 5 minutes to see more changes.

Featured in Films Assignment

Image
Today I had to create a video using different clips that have something featured in them. I used a monster to feature in my video. The programs I used were open shot, youtube, and 4k video downloader. the challenges I had with this project was the cutting and editing of each clip. As I had to find a small clip of a movie that had a monster scene in it or a group of monsters fighting in it. I solved this challenge by picking movies I know that have a lot of monster scenes in them. The most successful part of the project was picking the movies that had the category I choose in them. The final assignment I think is successful because I did lots of editing to make sure each clip was cut at the perfect moment to go on to the next clip. If I did the assignment again, I would choose more then one category to choose my clips from. If I continued to work on this project I would make it longer and add more clips.

Shots and Angles assignment

Today my assignment was to make a video of a object using different angles and shot types. I used my iPhone camera and open shot to create this video. A challenge I had is finding what shot type works with each angle. I solved this by trying each angle and shot type to see which ones go together well. The most successful part of the project was picking the right object to film and the editing process of the video. I think the final project is successful because lots of components went into the video to make a nice piece. if I did the assignment again I would use a real person. if I continued this piece I would add more shots and angles as well as filming in other location and climates
